    Question

I just bought a nizo s80 off ebay, and am slightly bothered by the fact that the image I'm shooting is a little darker in the viewfinder than it is in real life. I noticed this is true with another super8 camera I got at a thriftstore ... is a slightly tinted viewfinder typical of super8? Maybe to prevent you from trying to film in too dark of a setting? I dont think its dirty.(I havent gotten a chance to develop any film yet, so I dont know if the final product is a touch dark too.) Any help would be appreciated.

Ha! I think that is very normal. It could be due to age, but it probably won't affect your filmmaking. It could also be due to
depth of field as well. You are seeing right through the lens of your camera. My Nikon SLR has a depth of field preview button
which at higher f-stops will correspondingly darken the viewfinder.

Is it an orange-tinted darkness? I don't know about Nizo, but cameras with reflex viewing usually show an orange tint in the view finder when the 85A filter is engaged. The filter is in the light path on such cameras, so you are looking through it when it is on.
